About the Fellowship Program

Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital & Institute was established by philanthropist Sri A. Sankar Rao in 1997. Over the years, hospital services grew in scope and reach, establishing strong academic programs with recognition for Fellowships in various sub-specialties of Ophthalmology.

Since the inception of the first Anterior Segment Fellowship in 2010, **over 200 fellows** have successfully trained at Sankar Foundation, going on to serve as skilled practitioners and leaders in eye care across India.

Schedules & Academic Activities

Our fellowship schedules are carefully balanced to give equal emphasis to clinical assessment, surgical skill development, and scientific research:

  • Operating Room Postings: Fellows spend 1 to 4 days per week in operating theatres depending on the sub-specialty and training stage.
  • Clinical Postings: Attending OPDs, screening programs, and emergency care. Fellows are guided to develop clinical independence.
  • Didactic Programs: Weekly lectures, case discussions, journal club, and seminars. Access to the Microsoft 365 Teams ecosystem for learning materials.

Anterior Segment

Comprehensive surgical and clinical segments, SICS & Phaco cataract procedures.

Glaucoma

Early detection, diagnostic mapping (OCT & visual fields), laser and filtration surgeries.

Cornea & Refractive

Corneal transplants, C3R, ocular surface reconstructions, and refractive evaluations.

Vitreo-Retina

Medical & surgical retina, diabetic retinopathy screening, and intravitreal procedures.

Pediatric Ophthalmology

Childhood refractive errors, amblyopia, squint correction, and pediatric cataract.

Orbit & Oculoplasty

Eyelid reconstructions, tear duct bypasses, orbital tumors, and prosthetic eye restoration.
